In Firefox:

The first thing you’ll need to do is download Firefox as your Internet browser if you don’t have it already. This can be done at firefox.com. Next, add the Greasemonkey plug-in to Firefox. This add-on changes the web page content in real time. Once you have Greasemonkey installed restart your Firefox browser. After you have restarted the browser you should install one of the Greasemonkey scripts that have been created by Greasemonkey users. These include the following plug-ins like: Cipher’s Facebook Remove Ads or Facebook Companion, Facebook – Hide FeedAds, NoPirateQuestAds, Remove All Facebook Ads and NoFacebookAds.

In Google Chrome:

In case you’re a Chrome user, there is a way of hiding these advertisements on Facebook by installing a simple Google Chrome extension that blocks these ads and stops them from loading while browsing Facebook. Install the Google Chrome extension called Hide Facebook Ads. This hides the ads in both the main page and the profile page. Once you’ve installed the extension, you can load the social networking site and not see any adds on your profile or main page.

Get rid of those annoying Facebook ads using these helpful tips. If you don’t mind them, pass the information on to a friend who does.

The frown Facebook emoticons is very simple to create. It only requires a colon, dash and parenthesis or bracket. Sometimes it only takes two of those symbols to create a frown or sad face. Here are your four options for making it:

You could easily come up with a couple more just by branching off of those listed above. Use the frown when showing loved ones across the Internet how you feel about a court case, the rainy weather, a bad grade, recent breakup or whatever sad new. Even if you’re just empathizing with your FB buddy you can use it. There are plenty more emoticon instructions where that came from. Facebook is the most popular social network online, so it’s helpful to know all the little tricks and codes that make communicating with friends more fun. Facebook Mobile is available for iPhones and Android phones. Use Facebook on your wireless devices, including Tablets and iPads, but especially on your phone while you’re out and on-the-go. Just be sure that your mobile device has web capabilities before you try. Upload photos and videos instantly. Let friends and family know where you’re at and what you’re doing on the weekend. There are some people who visit Facebook even more from their phone than they do while at home on the computer. It’s just convenient and makes for a good time passer, whether you’re at the airport, waiting in line at the movies, sitting under the dryer at the salon or somewhere bored.

Now there’s an app called Facebook For Every Phone that is available for more than 2,500 different phones. It offers a fast comprehensive Facebook experience including the popular features like Inbox messaging, News Feed and photos. People from all over the globe can download this app by going to m.facebook.com.

Facebook has also made it to where you can take a tour of this new feature and learn all about the Facebook Timeline found at the top of the page. They’ll usually throw in a little advertisement for it after you’ve logged in if you haven’t seen it already. To get the timeline right now on your profile, click “Introducing Timeline page” and click “Get Timeline.

One feature people might like is that one that allows you to hide certain things from your timeline. You can also use the privacy drop-down to edit who can see any of your posts. It even lets you select “Only Me” for those posts that you’d like to keep and see but don’t really want other people seeing.

Timeline also has an Activity Log, which is a place where you can go back and review all your posts and acitivity from the day and even way back to the time you first opened an account. (I think) I know some of you are veterans on Facebook and started out when it was exclusive to college students, but try it out and see. Maybe the new Timeline on Facebook is right for you. Maybe it isn’t. If it is get to clickin’ “Get Timeline” now!

The symbols can be inserted whether you’re using a desktop computer or laptop. To insert Facebook symbols on your PC simply hold the ALT key on your keyboard while entering one of the codes listed to get the corresponding symbol. It is important that you remember to use the numbers found on the right side of the keyboard as opposed to numbers at the top. If you use the numbers at the top of your keyboard the codes won’t work.

If you’re trying to use the symbols for Facebook from your laptop, use the following instructions:

Press and hold the “Alt” key
Press and hold the Fn key while holding the Alt key
While holding the Alt and Fn key enter the necessary code (numbers on the right side of the keyboard or by the letters U, I & O).

Lastly, an even easier way to get the Facebook symbols you want to appear, just copy and paste them from this list. Highlight the symbol of your choice and right click. Press “Copy”. Then select where you want your symbol in Facebook and hit “Paste”. You can also utilize Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V for copying and pasting the symbols listed below:

Learn how to erase your tracks and delete previous chat conversations. When logged into Facebook click on the chat application found at the bottom of the screen. Click in the area and a panel will slide up showing all your online friends that you can chat with. Select the friend that you have chatted with before and are wishing to clear the chat history for. This person may or may not have to be online at the moment. Scroll to the top of that chat panel and click where it says “Clear Chat History”. By clicking on this link, any chat history will be deleted. Do this for any chats you want removed. Just open the chat box with the friend of your choice and repeat the instructions above.

Remember the chat box is a great place to use all the Facebook emoticons, whether old or new. When you clear your chat history these little characters will be deleted too, but you can always use them again. Emoticons for Facebook are timeless.

Describe the emoticons how you want to, but the codes will remain the same. Those were just a few suggestions. Just copy the bracketed text at the end of the emoticon into your chat box or Facebook message, and watch as they liven up your words. Use this list of codes whenever you want. (Trust us. 1. Go to the profile, fan page or event page of your choice

2. Locate the URL of that page. Then find the username or profile ID at the end of the URL
(i.e. “VinDiesel” from http://www.facebook.com/VinDiesel or “droz” from http://www.facebook.com/droz)

4. Enter that code into a Facebook Chat or message field. It may not appear at first, but once you have sent it the bracketed letters/numbers will appear as that person, page or event’s profile picture.

While these custom emoticons will display as photos on the web, they will appear as their bracketed string when viewed through a Facebook app. They also cannot be used in status updates, comments or wall posts yet. However, stay tuned, because you know how often Facebook upgrades things and adds new features. Because profile pictures and usernames are public, pulling photos as emoticons technically doesn’t violate privacy, and there’s no way to opt out of having your face used. If you never selected the Upgrade option for your Group then your photos and discussions may have been lost. There was also concern as to whether all the members would carry over into the new group or not, but luckily they did. Those that were banned from the groups didn’t make it into the switch either so that’s cool.
One new feature with Facebook groups that many people probably don’t care too much for is that every time a wall post is made or anything is done in the group, members will get an e-mail notification. That may have only lasted for so long though because I think recently Facebook got the message and cut down on all the e-mail notifications. Before then (or still today) users have to go and manually adjust their settings if they don’t want constant Group updates/notifications sent to them. This is done in your settings. Just like everything else on Facebook (i.e. Chat, Privacy, notifications, etc..) you have to manually adjust it or turn it off if you don’t want to be bothered. An easy way to customize who you will and won’t get all the e-mail notifications from is by going to Account > Account Settings > Notifications > Change E-mail settings for individual groups. This should bring you to a list of all your groups and the option to select or unselect boxes.

The Group change also made it so you have to set up a group e-mail since Facebook converted their old inboxes into the new message system. You can only send out mass messages to group members now if the group has less than 250 members. Enjoy your new Groups or if you have a change of heart try creating a Fan Page.
